the Shaq tee discussion + this week’s hoodie provocation + baseball opening day next week have together prompted a cyclonic series of questions and thoughts related to sports attire. And not like, nylon shorts: I mean team swag. Would love to hear you two think out loud about wearing a team’s gear . . . do you find certain articles work well, or others absolutely unrockable? Tees vs. caps vs. scarves vs. the ultimate tightrope act—a jersey?!?? What is the epaulet of fandom? When do you find nostalgia not only pleasant but inspiring, in a B.I.G. B.U.C.S. sense—and when shld one be wary of its draw? Play ball . . .

This is a rich topic no doubt… since neither of us are team apparel rockers outside of a stray memento or two, it’s not something we have thought much about. I wore a Mets starter jacket in my twenties because my dad’s from queens and that’s the first baseball game I ever went to, and a Rockets starter because I loved the 95 era team (as recently referenced in the sletter) but have never attempted a jersey… would have to think more / talk to others to build out a proper lexicon or taxonomy though 😂 Intuitively though I would say all the pieces you mention sound more or less equally rockable ??

I was fortunate enough to see Jake and his band play The Independent in San Francisco last month. It was hands down the best show I’ve seen in years. I already bought tickets to see him perform two shows in the Bay Area in September (Oakland & Napa). Happy to see this star handle his rise so humbly.

Missed MJ’s show in New Orleans (bummed), love danskos from years in the kitchen also in New Orleans (rad mention), have to do some thinking about whether 32 is too young to care about being dignified.

Thanks as usual Yung Spyplane!

1st time long time. Looking for inspo for Colorado dude ranch trip end of this month - need that urban Cowboy chic that also goes when walking around Queens Blvd. Search kinda wack in Substack. How do I find the goods?

it's an aesthetic we respect in broad terms but not one we've ever covered, and not a category of slapper I (Jonah) pay the closest attention to ... !

i will say a little probably goes a long way, to avoid full-kit cosplay energies... bring a western tipped belt... a snap-front denim shirt ... or this one from lemaire (https://www.sportivostore.com/products/lemaire-embroidered-collar-shirt-black) with a matching lemaire bolo tie if you are feeling spicy ... finish it off with some good shitkicking boots and call it a day 😉

the spyfriends at small talk are putting out a new version of their western washed-silk zip jacket friday - very subtly western energy to that one, mostly down to the topstitching on the welt hand pockets... some other S.T. pieces might hit the urban cowboy note in a cool way

Appreciate it Jonah. Not my thing either but this spot got somewhat of a dinner dress code + functional aspect to not freeze your ass off while riding them Clydesdales on that fresh powder.

It’s either my Supreme TNF statue liberty Baltoro (not) or my Mission Workshop peacoat for the outerwear so will have to spring on a nice lined denim piece or leather bomber
