Shoutout to the Spyplane! Finally this week after waiting for so long, I finally copped the Bode x Nike Astro Grabber kicks! I'm so stoked to get them and wear them around during an upcoming Eurotrip that I've already peeped through the travel intel for!
Blackbird is the only mail I read in a ceremonial way and not when I am on the go when rushing, working or walking fast to the metro. Grateful we met each other!! Happy Birthday and cheers to the beautiful years to come! xx
What was your gateway to the sletter? For me it was the “The end of cool small cars” report. No idea how I got there, but felt so seen lol, like finally someone gets it. The path from that to a subscriber was quite short, I think… (Just to put it out there: my first car was a 1996 United Colors Of Benetton “revolutionary features” Twingo 🥲) Congrats for the five years!
Mine was freaking an outfit so in tune with the BBSP Aesthetic and Ethos (B.A.E. ~ coined that one for you @Jonah ;) that it made a group of people at another table make a bet because a couple of them said "he has to be a BBSP reader".
One of them came over to the bar while I was ordering and shouted out the outfit and said "I have a very random question: do you read Blackbird Spyplane?". My response: "What's blackbird sky plane?" They laughed, corrected me (it was loud so I still didn't catch it) and told me that it's a clothes newsletter and that they and their friend just lost a bet to their other friends about me definitely being a reader.
After I got to my table I googled "blackbird sky plane fashion newsletter" and I was immediately hooked as I felt I found kindred spirits in y'all, both in terms of aesthetic but also philosophical alignment. I have barely missed a single sletter since that day.
I wish I could thank that person who introduced me to the Plane a few years ago at that natural wine bar in Logan Square. I didn't know the deep repercussions that short and funny conversation would have in my life 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I can't stand the big slabs either. Fighting the addiction (don't deny it) with Punkt MP02 now, though I did get a second-hand iPhone 12 mini recently...
i've always wanted a Punkt! how do you find the Pigeon messaging system?
the new Light Phone also looks great
i'm still rocking a 4inch 2016 iPhone SE (which i bought a couple years ago after the previous one broke and the 2020 SE felt too big), even the Mini feels too big to me
I guess the inherent problem is that companies are here to make money, and the idea of a dumb phone goes against that… And dabbling with these I’ve realized much resources one needs to make a thing like this work (a lot). I had a Lightphone a few years back and jesus christ it was bad. Punkt is better, and Jasper Morrison design is obviously great. The sound could be better, it could be faster… But I don’t even have Pigeon installed; after all, the idea is not to use it. So calls and clumsy SMS. iPhone permanently at the studio, Punkt everywhere else (ideally, ngl it’s a struggle). Should probably see what’s new out there.
Yeah, the LP2 looked very nice, too. But it was the buggiest piece of tech I've ever used. Like it literally didn't work. Receiving a call it many times disconnected after the first ring (restart required). Certain numbers you simply couldn't call ("call ended"). It kept restarting on its own so you pick it up and mf is asking for a PIN code. Sound was awful. Texting was horrible and please don't make me start with the e-ink ghosting look and feel 🫨 U get the idea: test it before buying. I at least had a major hangover from putting down hundreds of € for that piece of shit...!
i think it was the tyler the creator 2021 interview that made me aware of the sletter, i maybe checked out a few interviews and popular articles through the years, but it was the Profound Essays that made me realize how amazing BBSP really is, and i finally susbscribed last year
just 👑💛👑
I love you Spyplane. Happy birthday 🥳

I just wish you two weren’t so hot. Congrats on 🖐🏼!!!
Sincere kudos for your GOATness. A beacon, truly.
Heartfelt thanks from rural Wisconsin for making the world feel less lonely. A truly admirable (the only worthwhile?) goal.
