The recent news possibly implicating nike execs in resale schemes kinda fits into why category 5 exists imo. If nike doesn't want me to have the 2.0s at msrp then why not get the almost as good fakes for even less.
it's a compelling question...! "the black market offers correctives" for sure...
one extremely DARK question i allude to, worth emphasizing again here, is that even with the "real" deal and especially in the world of fakes there is no way for well meaning ppl much less profit-minded multinational corporations to vet every step of the supply chain / be sure that there are not heinous labor practices involved (another reader wrote in about the link between counterfeiting factories and human trafficking).
hard to do much substantively about this as an individual consumer but this aspect of it can't be ignored because it is extremely bleak s**t
wow I convinced myself to buy fake mars yards as well a lil while back .. I think its all about enjoying the design / feeling u get from wearing and if u can give urself that for cheaper and not even think twice about it ... that's pretty juiced up
ALSO - I don't want to live to see the day that Cat. 3 makes it to Cat. 1 and clumsy intentional bootlegs become to high price point grails themselves.
I feel like Grateful Dead tees run the entire gamut of grail > depressing. Worth a mention in the newsletter! Personal fav collection is https://www.instagram.com/fromthelot/
I'm two years late, but watch Orson Welles's "F for fake" and enjoy the spiral of considering facets of forgery 💁🏻♀️

Indeed. Maybe the best decision then is to buy into the spirit of what sachs is doing with nike and not cop new sneakers unless absolutely necessary
Yoooo I am late to reading my BBSP intel today and just caught up on this story, definitely complicates the (already-complicated) levels here! https://slate.com/business/2021/03/joe-hebert-nike-bloomberg-sneaker-scandal.html
those Vermeers are more #4 IMO. Glad van Meegeren scammed Göring of course, but sad Jesus kinda feels like the d*mn color cracking off the “N” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Han_van_Meegeren#/media/File:EmmausgangersVanMeegeren1937.jpg
ha ha u raise a good point !!
not anywhere near as category 4, when it comes to bootleg jesuses, as the botched "ecce homo" restoration though ; )
