Here’s the thing… hoods actually do something. So when it starts pouring and you instinctively go to pull that bad boy up, guess what? Your entire sweatshirt is coming with it, midsection exposed like you’re auditioning for a crop-top commercial.
Hope you kept that belly button clean, my guy, because now you’re just the dude standing in the rain, soaking wet, abs out, looking like you took fashion advice from Winnie the Pooh
Yeah but most hoodies are also made from a material that if it starts pouring rain it's not actually going to do any good anyway. Rain is just gonna soak through the cotton/wool/whatever and you'll be standing there with a soaked head and a sloppy garment regardless. This type of hoodie is good for at best a very light drizzle anyway so the hood is barely functional as it is.
Yeah I don’t think rain is the best use case for a hood. It’s more about cold weather, where if you’re wearing a CLNFH (cool looking nonfunctional hood) you’ll want a hat or other head covering
1. I would wear the tiny hood. Muhammad Ali looks amazing. I don’t own any hoodies but now want to wear a tiny hood.
2. Not quite related to this but I want to turn everyone on to ordering their maple syrup from company websites. I ordered two 1-Liter glass bottles of organic maple syrup from Vermont for like $25. There is an insane markup at the grocery store for good maple syrup, maybe due to the weight and cost associated with shipping and stocking. Plus nice maple company gets the profits directly.
The Camber hoodies I have all have too little hood and sit fairly high around the neck. Very nice fit! Sizing and cut can be uneven on them so unclear if that’s intent or accident.
was going 2 say gilden cotton blend does a fine job too - i have an old one from a bar I worked at that pulls up the shoulders (not as dramatic of a cornhole)
I’ve found that the old made in usa russell sweatshirts have a very small hood, which if you’re wearing it outside in chilly weather will actually hug your beautiful dome tightly instead of flapping in the breeze
I agree with buying a hoodie to fit a style/purpose; some days I need a snug hoodie. Other days I’m cool with my relaxed flowing Essentials hoodie. I will say though, the pocket on my button downs is perfect for pens, chapstick and the occasional lighter.
Similarly fascinated by hoodies and have been on a years long journey. So many companies, touting air quotes the 10 year hoodie, the forever hoodie, the only one you need, priced like $150 USD+, massive hood, overkill fabric, unique sizing that’s hard to get right. I feel like I’ve tried them all. My favorite one in the Venn diagram of cost fit fabric versatility is coppable anywhere and if you wanted to go the used route, have some nice washed preloved colors on eBay and Mercari .. Can I suggest the super basic Russell athletic black zip up hood? Dealer’s choice on color I have it in black for maximum versatility.
“Russell Athletic Men's Dri-Power Fleece Hoodie” is its government name - the hood lays almost completely flat behind your head and doesn’t sit strangely, my strings fell out naturally in the wash for an even more streamlined look. The silver zipper is kind of a cool touch as well. Not saying this is the perfect garment by any means, but I take it everywhere with me and can’t be beat for it’s price
My work issues Russell hoodies as off-duty uniform gear, and while we’re sunsetting them for a Canadian alternative to protect our supply chain they take on a really nice quality after a few dozen washes. The hood sits nicely on a jacket collar, which makes it a natural layering piece. Do like the kids and tie the shoelace cinch in a bow.
This was the remedy to my lifelong hoodie struggle too. Small hoods are the solution. As a lot of people have already said, Vintage MiUSA Russell & Camber hoodies work really nicely for me.
The issue is actually where the hood starts in relation to the zipper. If the zipper ends at your collar bone, the hood will sag and require extra fabric to reach your head when it’s worn up, thus accentuating the floppy appearance. This Patagonia Better Sweater has a great hood-to-zipper nexus point—the zipper ends almost at the chin: providing not only weather protection to the neck; but gives a hood-worn-down a very minor silhouette when the sweater is zipped up.
Enjoyed this and was moved to comment with lifelong admiration for Muhammad Ali, not just for fashion reasons but also political and poetical. However I think maybe the hoodie in question was just too small for him? He was 6’3” with 78 in reach ❤️
Just saying A Presse is serving correct details and fits. Camber is the legit prototype. Strangely, akimbo has a rare lock on easy hoodies. The fit has an opinion while somehow feeling like an unearthed thing from your memory.
huh never thought much about Akimbo but they strike me as very of-a-certain-2017ish-moment... actually kind of extreme in their dimensions, highly post-Yeezy vibed, as opposed to a vintage / unearthed memory feeling... only ever seen them in photos though, never tried one on
Indeed. All assessments 100% correct, but I was heavily targeted and finally caved...and despite the brand doing all kinds of strange dance moves visually, the hoodie kind of crushes. I'm all for rescue hoodies (or new old, old new- talking to you, Real Mccoy's), but I was surprised by how akimbo did it right despite the Bieberness of it all. Iunno, sometimes you're just rescuing something from its former context and that's enough.

Came here to say the same thing, I have an ecru Camber hoodie with a great fit. Sized up one since they shrink after the first wash or two
was going 2 say gilden cotton blend does a fine job too - i have an old one from a bar I worked at that pulls up the shoulders (not as dramatic of a cornhole)
Also coming here to say that I love the small hood on my Camber hoodie—it’s not too tiny to wear up, but it sits nice and tidy when down 😁

Good call on the syrup handle. Laughed when I opened the fridge
The super weighted lady white hood sits nice. Not zip up and no eyelets so veers off course a little but

That’s a silk hemp insulated jacket

This is def one possible remedy for the hood-down-mess issue but it’s also a distinct (and distinctly “active”) kind of look
This hoodie def has more of a slim/"quick" silhouette. It'd be interesting to see this hood design on a more casual/room-y sweater.

There’s other full body images you can find from this shoot, it’s not too small, just fitted !
awesome, now I see hoodies in a new light
Frankly I think more people should be open to going cornholio mode
!
Also, it’s -40 where I’m at and you need a big hood sometimes to layer and go big head mode
Revisiting this one! Can we get an ID on the black pants pictured in ‘E’? Are they Lemaire joints?
Those are Lemaire "Anthracite Wadded Pants" from Fall 2020
So good. Thanks!

The Stoffa hoods wear like funnel necks when down but still have functionality. Those and auralee are my favs.
A presse, with all its gorgeous fabric and impeccable construction, is style over utility.
style <-> utility is an eternal dance!
shout out to stoffa & auralee
I have the A. presse vintage pullover hoody and it feels like a warm hug. It is miles better than the Visvim hoodies that I have.
As a weekday city dweller and weekend hiker gorp adjacent refined gear is peak utility
