Last week we published our Spyplane Deep-Dive Investigative Report into the effect of Ssense (among other big “e-tailers”) on the cool-clothes ecosystem. We learned about 1000s of pairs of unsold Balenciaga Triple Ss … Fear of God Essentials contracts worth more than $50 million a year … how monster e-comm sites use internal data to encourage brands to make (homogenized??) clothes … and tons more.
Today we’re saluting a bunch of our favorite Mach 3+ clothing shops... the kinds of places that are highly beneficial to the “cool-clothes ecosystem” … and the kinds of places where clothes thrum with talismanic significance rather than fester in a denuded state of abject meaninglessness !!
“Blackbird Spyplane, is your list top-notch?” You already know. “If we hit up these stores, are we guaranteed to find unique slappers sourced swaggily and placed carefully on the racks by people with great eyes who care about clothes and the people who make them?” 100%.
As always, visit these spots in person if you can, on some C.I.R.L.O.C. s**t, because copping slappers in person >>> copping slappers online.
BUT almost all of them have webshops, which is tight because copping slappers from cool shops online >>>>> not copping any slappers at all!
We put ♂♀ symbols below to indicate whether a shop carries men’s clothes, women’s or both. If you are the type of big-brained swagger-don who interrogates & rejects those distinctions? Go ahead and ignore the symbols, player.

10Tow (Tokyo, pictured below) — This densely packed vintage spot, on an upper floor of a nondescript building in Shibuya, specializes in fire secondhand / archive Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto pieces, and the prices are great — the ‘90s colorblock wool Yohji suit Spyfriend Ezra Koenig is inspecting below right cost less than $400. ♂♀
