Budgeting has always been a fundamental aspect of my shopping experience. When I was a (low-income) culture/fashion focused kid, I used to keep detailed, trend based, cop-lists as a way of collecting without spending. As an extremely fortunate and grateful adult with a more flexible jawn allowance, I still like to window shop and form cop-lists, but now they’re categorical (typically material, cut, or theme based). Making these lists helps to keep my spending grounded/focused and my wardrobe cohesive. In areas that I struggle, like accessories, I still keep item specific grail lists.
I think there's some serious wisdom to this! I always want to steer away from my relatively more shoot-from-the-hip approach... this requires extra effort on my part, though, because I do not possess "spreadsheet" brain...
To the point of using a cop list when you were younger as a way to "collect" without spending, there's definite wisdom there, too -- it's helpful to learn when you can just appreciate something's image, and when actually owning it might not give you significantly more pleasure than that image! (I think about this a lot w/r/t to graphic tees, but I think it can be extrapolated...)
When *I* was a young low-income culture/fashion focused kid and, like, Polo Sport and DKNY tees were super popping, I would re-draw the logos with Sharpies on t-shirts and rock those as a kind of "winking high school critique" ... I got to have my logo and make fun of it too ... and speaking of Jawn Libraries god damn I wish I still had some of those Sharpie tees !!
Thanks for the kind words! I wish I had had that kind of level of self-assurance as a HS kid to make my own bootlegs! Hopefully some kid picked one of your creations up from a thrift store and rocks it now.
Uhg, same. Sometimes on a quiet afternoon an image of a discarded garment will pop into my head. 😫Should have pumped the brakes on a few of those gems! Libraries are the way to ☮️ for sure.
Partly because we get told nonsense like, “If you haven’t worn it for a year, you should remove it from your closet.” And then there are also issues like small closets, divorce and other things that make you irrational lol
Purged that very same pearl jam shirt in a moment of mental weakness! Really drove the point home.
no way !!!!! oof
I can’t believe you sequenced the Spyplane merch sale with a reference to (C.H.A.O.S.) Mindset.
A subtle test I was happy to loose. Can’t wait for my Spy Ranch hat!
Haha please enjoy it like it was full price

Hey man, may I ask where the pants in the top photo are from?
Ayyy yessir these are Evan Kinori’s elastic waist pants in linen
I’ve done the impulse purge so many times and have so many regrets as a result. Don’t do what I’ve done--keep a library!

🙏🏻The temptation to purge is strong but must be interrogated and resisted !!! There is rarely an “undo” button !!!

Haha yes on all counts
