regarding the concept of streetwear: i 100% share the disdain against logo prominence, but there are famous streetwear brands that also do dope logo-less stuff, right?
for me streetwear was definitely a gateway into caring more about clothes and the culture around it in general, mainly because of its close association with skate and hip hop culture
as a teenager i was enamored with supreme, thrasher, and yeezy, funnily mostly via the internet bc those brands wouldnt get to peru by those years!! and even if they would had, i could have never afforded them, so it was purely aspirational
i vividly recall reading this piece by kyle chayka on the history of supreme https://www.racked.com/a/supreme and also the yeezy fashion shows on the life of pablo era, both things during my senior year of high-school
this was i think right before the mainstreaming and subsequent enshittification of streetwear, when those brands lost most of their original meaning and depth
even though they've lost a lot of their coolness value, it's undeniable that they played a gigantic role in giving a lot of people some kind of nascent sauce sensibility, blurring the line between high and low culture, and have produced actually great pieces of clothing that go way beyond the meme-esque "streetwear" category
to this day i don't think i own anything that could be squarely classified as "streetwear" (maybe my brockhampton merch and a couple kith t-shirts fall there), and it's sad how in some cases they fell for the temptation of market forces and mass appeal, but i still have massive respect for some of those brands and their legacy
I asked the Q about relationships. Love your answer, my partner and I make each other laugh all the time, it's one of the things I love most about her (sense of humor) thanks for thoughtful answer 🤠
Love the idea of dressing for lunch—and having more lunches. Thank you for that exhortation. The Lauren Collins piece was a fun read. I agreed with you on streetwear from the ages of 15 to 30, but I’m over 40 now and just want to be who I am, which is someone who enjoys wearing and collecting streetwear. 🤷🏻♂️
I remember when the Ivy/preppy vibes started trending again about 15 years ago, and some gen-x friends were all about oxford shirts, khaki chinos, varsity jackets, loafers… Another friend, rooted in hardcore culture, commented: “Alright, dudes wanna look like Phil Collins now.” It’s funny, you can kinda miss the mark both ways. (And yes, the hc dude is a deadhead now.) Personally I’ve landed in the Plane lane here: I still wear the Supreme fleece cap my wife gifted me in 2008 a couple times a year, but that’s about it…
I felt the lunch part of this in my bones. I’ve been a fully remote employee for about six months. New job is fab, but I really miss pulling together an awesome outfit to work in my former office tower. Totally inspired to prioritize lunch in a proper restaurant or the beautiful park two blocks from my home. Love the Plane.
Sci-Fi Fantasy FTW 🙌

Finally changed my payment method as I moved overseas - pieces of the plane like this make me even more relieved that I resubbed.

respect - as a 40+ streetwear enthusiast and spyfriend how would you have answered the reader's question about styling it ?
