I posted this in the chat thread but also posting here bc handbags depress me too, yet somehow I am looking for one๐ Looking for a hardware-free, minimalist leather crossbody purse big enough to hold wallet, keys, phone, hard sunglasses case, and maybe a couple snacks ;) I like bags by ARE Studio, Hannah Emile, and Lindquist Objects (been contemplating the Po bag) but wanted to see if Erin or any Concorde readers have any other recs, new or vintage. Thanks!
Hey Margot! I hear you... despite being depressed by handbags I still need to use them occasionally. A couple quick ideas: Il Bisonte is an Italian brand that started in the '70s and you can find some really nice vintage ones in solid color leathers on eBay. If you have a bigger budget, Lemaire's croissant bags are cool. I'm also really into L.A.-based Building Block. I think these will fit the "minimalist" bill nicely. They have a few options on sale right now https://building--block.com/ -- erin

Oh man, call me influenced. I thought about the Uzi pants all week and bought them today. Also wanted to recommend Hannah Emile for really soft, gorgeous, handmade bags.
Remembering fondly my X-Girl pin-tucked front seam jeans circa 1996 bought in their Los Feliz shop that were definitely not high rise! I felt sharp wearing them around London where I was living that following year.
Hello! Please may I ask what โjawnโ means? Iโm new here obviously but am very much enjoying everything, and am very glad I found you. What other important words will I need to know?!
Love the silver. And the jeans rec. Had been thinking of getting that shape in black pants, plus pulling forward a similar vintage pair from my closet. And the bags! Can't wait for the next issue.
Excited for this column and to hear more from Erin! Looking forward to not spending as much time digging in the archives for womens labels (though that was often fun too)
Hearing that makes my day- thank you! I love what youโre making and devour these newsletters as soon as they come into my inbox. Thank you for making content thats so intelligent and thoughtful.
Really like that this exists. But, personally, everything is out of my price point. Iโm sure thatโs not true for everyone. Still thought Iโd be brave enough to say it in case itโs true for others.
Hi Lily ! We feel that. To the broad point about "affordability" (a word we put in quotes because often the most "affordable" garments have all kinds of hidden costs, in terms of labor exploitation, ecological tolls, etc.), it's something that can be challenging with the fashion in Blackbird Spyplane, too: If we regularly covered places like, say, J. Crew, they can hit factory minimums, produce overseas, order fabric in bulk, and do other things to drive costs down. But that's not typically true of the smaller makers and labels we like to write about. In this case we made a point to include a few things under $100, and we would definitely make the case that asking $230 for a hand-made, hand-natural-dyed sweater is a pretty good deal ; )
But yes as with the recommendations in BBSP it's always about keeping an eye open for vintage and secondhand stuff, too, and that will absolutely be true here.
Iโm not at all talking about the value of what youโre suggesting, nor the taste! Iโm just saying something I appreciate about the non-Concorde version is the lower price point. This seemed steeply more expensive to me โ now that I think about it I think itโs probably because it didnโt have the links to pre-owned options. Also could be a symptom of โpink taxโ? But even if some items are under $100, I personally donโt know many people spending $50 on socks, for example, but I am probably the outlier in your audience. I wouldnโt have said something if had I not noticed a disparity between the versions and, being a woman, would love to buy some of this amazing stuff!
The more I think about this, I donโt actually know anything about fashion or the industry: Maybe womenโs clothes are just in general much more expensive. This would not surprise me. In any case, I did not at all mean this in a critical or accusatory way! It was just some feedback about โfinancial inclusivityโ so to speak. It can absolutely be ignored without hurt feelings :)

X-Girl, yes!

Ha ha welcome! Jawn (outside of its original Philly context) basically refers to a cool article of clothing โฆ more broadly, a cool thing.
I believe the Philly jawn is a corruption of โjoint,โ and can be used to refer to things, places, etc etc
Thank you! Iโm enjoying your writing very much.

Love the retro modern name as well!
Yeah! Hopefully this makes it easier to find some things for the hot lady army
U ignore nowakowski!!
Such a fantastic piece. These looks remind me of Fall 99 Helmut Lang - the silver motorcross collection paired with simple neutrals.
Oh, yes, Lisa! That was such a good collection, with some head-to-toe silver too. BTW, I was a big Vena Cava fan and held onto some pieces

Wow, thank you! So glad you enjoy it

what a debut! Norma Kamali also has some very stretchy silver jawns
Oh yes, good call โ Kamali is a great one. Her sleeping bag coats are a more affordable alternative to Sofie DโHoore
