"Thank you for the prophetic wisdom Spyplane," everyone says in unison

Not only is repetition sustainable and healthy for the environment, but I think it also screams confidence to rock the same pieces again and again mixing and matching as you go along. If you think an article is hype, the best way to show that is to flex it as often and in as many contexts as possible. This sletter is a great start to 2025.

Soon, Blackbird will be writing an exegesis on Difference and Repetition

you hinted at the form of the fit pic itself being the root problem behind superflous shopping and displaying over proud wearing (and re-wearing), i completely agree with that and i think that deserves a deeper dig... i appreciate a good fit pic every now and then but im not a fan having it as a cultural habit in the zeitgeist... the same could be said about selfies in general... it's a topsy-turvy hypervisual egomaniacal world we live in

also thanks for the general wisdom on Wetlands and for mentioning stone roses now im listening to i am the ressurrection and My Afternoon Has Improved

Totally agree. Rewear the good shit.

Regarding 2 way zippers (yes, a good idea), but...."bringing them to tailors to have two-ways installed (a straightforward job that shouldn’t cost a ton)." is misleading and demeaning to 'the tailor' and not exactly 'straightforward'. Replacing a zipper is a time consuming task that requires finesse and know-how, and varies depending on the original construction and the garment fabric woven? knit? lined?. First, you have to find the right 2 way zipper - the same color, size/length and weight of the original. For this, go to Botani: https://www.botanitrim.com/ and they may have to make it to specs. Then find a 'tailor' who is willing to rip out the original without harming the fabric, then carefully stitch the replacement so it looks as good as the original one-way. Not easy, not really straightforward, not fast and not cheap.

I'm lowkey okay with the circuit jacket being sold out since I have several James Coward pieces already, but please let us know if you see any other two-way zip heaters! Spyplaners, feel free to drop any others you've found

To name 3 off the dome: some / all of Yoko Sakamoto's drizzler-style jackets are double zip; Evan Kinori's Zip Jacket and Zip Jacket 2 have double zips; Smock's Zip Jacket is wool gabardine, like the James Coward Circuit, and double zip too

apart from the two-way zipper stuff, there’s something here: i feel a real sense of relief when something that i think is really cool but that i know is expensive/kind of unnecessary for my wardrobe sells out, as if my decision not to cop is being made for me. does anybody else feel that?

100%

And if you decide to embark on a months- or even yearslong mission to find it then maybe you "know you really wanted it"

I’m a fan of the LEJ wool shell blousons (nylon versions too for summer). Cool pocket detail and cinch adjustment at the waist

re: outfit repeating - winnie holzman said that when she was writing my so called life, she had to repeatedly push back against network notes complaining about the characters repeating outfits ... bless her for that i remember clocking it then and now ... she's just like us etc (whole ep is good: https://open.spotify.com/episode/4rraHlVxgw9eVeyxcUWyy8?si=J5uTVHwlQOOmZg3X5Q1tTQ)

Just watched the final address from rep Barbara Lee of Oakland, a self-proclaimed member of the Slow Fashion Caucus, who was rocking the same fit she wore when she was sworn in in '98! https://www.instagram.com/p/DDvKRQkPkwk/?hl=en

Blackbird Spyplane's avatar

wow - salute the only member of congress to vote no on the AUMF and therefore an eternal spyplane hero even without the oakland connection & fit repeating

Hi Jonah. Is that a Man-tle D3 jacket you are wearing up top? How does it size? Did you go for the same size as your other Man-tle jackets?

Blackbird Spyplane's avatar

It is and I sized down relative to other man-tle tops — took an s

Time to shoutout the GOAT wetlands: the city planning marvel that is Arcata marsh, which has treated sewage for the community for age while providing the best place for birding, dog walking, cross country races and all sorts of wildlife spotting. Go see those marbled godwits and the artists that paint them in the spring

Blackbird Spyplane's avatar

Holy moly beautiful ! Gotta trek up there from the bay , thank you

River's avatar

🫡 Arcata and Humboldt county in general is filled with beautiful nature and is absolutely worth the drive. I could go on and on about the sites up there
