When I was in 8th grade, our final writing assignment in my English class was to write a short story. I just wrote the movie Blade as a short story. Got an A. Old lady never knew.
What’s odd about this is knowing the machinations behind the machine that is large clothing retailers - that it’s typically middle management-level creatives (or contractors) doing the work of hunting down references and pitching shoot concepts for the real leadership in charge (if it even gets to the CD’s level) to either approve or ask for “rework.” So it’s not “Zara the all-knowing entity” doing this - it’s some everyday Joe ripping off Evan’s work to climb the corporate ladder, and apparently none of their leadership is connected enough to the fashion world to catch that their team just copied rather than referenced before this image went live. Disappointing.
SFO has a lot of cool art on display. There’s an exhibition space just past security in terminal 1 that always has something interesting going on. Last time I was there it was about aviation at the SF worlds fair.
Absolute scoundrels. Thanks for this reporting. Interesting timing, as it comes in tandem with a very highly regarded menswear influencer and designer teaming up with Zara to produce a cursed facsimile of his personal sauce book. Those "for the love of the game" platitudes ringing especially hollow this morning.
i had never heard of joel meyerowitz but the meyerowitz stories (2017) is one of my favorite movies. i always assumed director noah baumbach picked a random family name but it could make sense if he was an inspiration since the movie is about ny artists.
This dates the pre nike rip off. It was like 2022, I remember brice (CD, founder satisfy) posting it too his story and being pissed off (rightfully so). Might have not been Zara, just remember it being pretty blatant.
BSP would you mind telling me about the hoodie you’re wearing up top thank you!
Of course - it’s from a. presse and it is the subject of this coming Tuesday’s sletter as a matter of fact
Awesome thank you for the quick reply have a great day!
Whit Stillman one of the GOATs!

That Zara copycat image is WILD how blatant it is. I know it's nothing new but for some reason this one made me particularly sad.

Totally
I'm curious if your shoes were also murdered out in the black on black on black outfit (which looks great)?
The pants were dark navy and the shoes were purple earth Spyplane Oboz baby !
Dare I ask who makes the hoodie in the go-see shot so that we might go see about it?
It’s a. Presse, actually writing about it next week at some length !

it is incredible when you're in an airport and you stumble on something really special and it feels like a secret hidden in plain sight...
Came to say I literally just re-read Jesus’ Son on my last flight. Appreciating the unexpected synchronicity with young Spyplane 🤝
great flight book, the 4-page stories really hurtle along

stood next to photog legend joel meyerowitz on the jfk air train a few years ago. real heads take the train (even in their 80s)!

j.m. had to have been in his thoughts with that title
underrated all-time sandler dramatic performance in that one !
beautiful underrated movie in general; sandler's piano song scene with grace van patten is one of my favorite moments in movies ever
[adding baumbach to my wishlist of spyplane interviews!]
love to hear that
Zara also just ripped off Soar: https://www.instagram.com/p/DFvILZZN2Pe/?img_index=5&igsh=MXI2NGM1NzYyYm10aQ==
